The population of the Akwaya subdivision of the Manyu division in the Southwest region can now experience fast and easy means of transportation, as the maintenance works on the phases 1 and 2 of the Bawora-LimiteNW-Akwaya road have been completed and received. This maintenance is necessary before the construction of the road.
This followed the instruction of the Minister of Public Works, in March 2025, during an evaluation meeting of project review., During the instructions were given for the acceleration of execution works of the contract N°198/M/MINTP/CIPM-TERI/2022 for the periodic maintenance of national road N° 11, Baworo-Limite NW-Akwaya Inter N6B-Nigerian done by ETS Wallang Richard.
It should be noted that this contract was signed on the 7th of July 2022, and the service order prescribing the start of works for the 1st phase was issued on the 22 of September 2022. The service order for the start of work for the second phase was issued on 15th March 2023.
However, a new service order for the start of works for the 3rd phase was signed by the project owner (minister of Public Works) and transmitted to the Administrator of Road Fund on the 19th of March 2025 for visa which will soon commence. It should be noted that this road has been for over ten (10) years without maintenance, it was of paramount urgency and quality equipment were brought in from Nigeria for the job.
Looking at the financial aspect the global amount of the contract stood at 997 550 458 FCFA all tax inclusive, and was divided into three phases as follows ; Phase 1 307 941 541 FCFA for a duration of six (06) months. It was executed and received; Phase 2: 318 340 035 FCFA for a duration of six (06) months, it was executed and received; and Phase 3: 308 268 882 FCFA for a duration of six (06) months still to be completed.

To this effect some clauses were meant to perfect the nature of work that was to be executed, such as; roadside clearing, falling of trees, digging and backfilling, backfilling with soil from borrowed pit, shaping of the road surface, reprofilling/forming, grading and compaction, surface coating with laterite, Masonry gutters, concreting of slopes; construction of metallic culverts; construction of box culverts; construction of inspection chambers and culverts heads; construction and management of rain gates and the maintenance of circulations.
Difficulties encountered includes insecurity challenges, difficulties of accessing the area with equipment from Cameroon, and budgetary constraints. To crown it all, the Minister instructed the contractor to accelerate works of the 3rd phase when notified. Secondly, the divisional delegate, in collaboration with local authorities, should elaborate more adaptive estimates and, if possible, integrate some feeder roads given eventual programming. Lastly, since the 1st and 2nd phases of the contract were realized, the technical team should continue with close monitoring during the execution of the 3rd phase to avoid any lapses.
